We usually celebrate the birthdays of those borned in July and August together. The birthday girls had no clue of the program that day. We were just told to meet up at a place for pick up! And we need to pack some stuff as though we are heading to the beach. So in our hearts, we were all speculating.
All of us were pretty on the roll for observing the pick up times by Kym. It was such a nice gesture to pick 6 others and head to Changi Ferry Terminal. We were greeted by a friendly tour guide (aka my buddy) who sat at the rear of Kym's car. It was quite an amusing way to start the day.
We arrived at the almost deserted terminal way ahead of time. We had no idea where we were heading. But we saw notices pointing to Desaru.
After passing through immigration, someone asked what hotels we were heading to. The organisers looked perplexed. Finally someone came and asked if were heading to the kelong. Oh... We finally had an answer! Earlier on,Grace and I were just commenting that we felt uneasy cos we did not know what to expect.
We popped on a short ride by coach. Later on,we hopped on the mini motor boat.
Before we knew it,we drew closer to the kelong. Idea was really quite cool. I have always wanted to visit one but had never gotten to do it. Ha.. What's new?
Catchment areas were divided into mini squares and there were all kinds of seafood. Yummy!
After settling down,we were presented with the door gift. We chose the packaged bears randomly. To our amusement, they were clothed and designed differently after each birthday person. Was taken aback in seeing the pearl necklace for Sok's bear. Ha.
They made the dress for the bear~
We had seafood brunch slightly before noon. It was quite a decent spread as you can see. As it was Grace's actual birthday, the boss offered a lobster as a gift. How cool.
We spent the noon rather leisurely by playing a traditional game, mahjong, trying to fish and crab. But it was to no avail. Not sure if its due to the weather, some of us experienced headaches. And it was the bottle of peppermint lotion from Origins that brought some relief.
As we were nearing dinner, Dor and I agreed that we should buy some lobsters for dinner. I mean we have already come so far. It was 80RM for 1kg, consisting of approx 5 small to mid sized lobsters. It was definitely worth the money!
The dinner was a BBQ seafood meal. We love the chicken wings and the ultra sweet lobster.
After the filling meal, it was time for the cake and presents. For a change,it was mini cupcakes. Felt as though we were celebrating our birthdays in a pre school! Our chic looking bears (oxymoron in that are bears ever considered chic?) graced the candle blowing and cake cutting ceremony.
Thanks to the organisers for the great effort in planning the kelong getaway. At least we can tell people now that we've been to a kelong. :)
